Nominet’s September 2026 register table lists 10,723,942 domains across the .UK namespace, 66,218 more than at the end of August. Here is what the figures count and how to use them when choosing a domain.
Nominet’s latest monthly register table puts the .UK namespace at 10,723,942 registered domains at the end of September 2026. That is 66,218 more than at the end of August, based on the two month-end totals in Nominet’s published table. The numbers describe registrations, not the number of active websites.
What changed in September
The September total combines 9,199,893 third-level registrations—including names under .co.uk, .org.uk and other third-level spaces—with 1,524,049 second-level registrations directly under .uk. In August, those two groups totaled 9,144,916 and 1,512,808 respectively, or 10,657,724 combined.
Nominet also lists 215,852 new registrations during September: 181,861 third-level and 33,991 direct second-level names. That is a gross count of new registrations during the month; the 66,218 increase compares the month-end register sizes. The two figures answer different questions and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Within the September register, .co.uk accounts for 8,739,658 domains. That is part of the third-level total, while the 1,524,049 direct .uk registrations are counted separately.
What it means for a domain buyer
The register’s growth gives a useful view of the UK namespace, but it does not reveal whether a particular name is available, how many domains serve live sites, or which extension is best for a project. If you are choosing a UK-facing name, compare the exact options on NicNames’ .co.uk domain page and .uk domain page. Check availability and current registration and renewal terms for the name you want.
For wider context beyond the UK register, see our Q2 2026 global domain-registration report. Its global total uses a different reporting period and scope, so it should not be compared directly with Nominet’s September monthly figure.
