ICANN’s Nominating Committee (NomCom) has officially opened the application process for a range of senior leadership positions within the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and Public Technical Identifiers (PTI). These roles span ICANN’s Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees, as well as seats on the ICANN and PTI Boards. The initiative aims to attract globally diverse candidates who can contribute experience and insight to the coordination of the internet’s unique identifier systems.
Individuals selected through this process will collaborate with an international community of stakeholders and play an active role in shaping internet governance. The positions offer an opportunity to influence policy development, strategic oversight, and technical coordination that underpin the stability and security of the global internet.
Application Timeline and Leadership Roles
The application window opened on 18 December 2025 and will remain open until 23:59 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on 18 February 2026. Applications submitted after this deadline will not be considered, making timely completion essential for interested candidates.
NomCom is seeking candidates for several specific roles, including two members of the ICANN Board of Directors, one member of the PTI Board of Directors, two regional representatives to the At-Large Advisory Committee for Europe and North America, one representative to the Country Code Names Supporting Organization Council, and one representative to the Generic Names Supporting Organization Council. Each role carries distinct responsibilities but shares a common focus on supporting ICANN’s mission.
Following the evaluation process, NomCom is expected to announce its selections in August 2026. Appointees will formally assume their roles after the conclusion of the ICANN87 Annual General Meeting in October 2026, ensuring continuity in leadership transitions.
Eligibility Requirements and Application Process
Fluency in English is a mandatory requirement for all positions, as it is the primary working language across ICANN and PTI activities. Beyond language proficiency, each role has its own set of qualifications, skill expectations, and time commitments that applicants should carefully consider before applying.
All applications must be submitted through NomCom’s secure online candidate portal. The committee has emphasized that candidate information will be handled confidentially throughout the selection process, reinforcing the integrity and professionalism of the procedure.
Participation Expectations and Commitments
Successful candidates should be prepared for active participation in meetings, working sessions, and community discussions related to their roles. Many of these positions involve regular virtual engagement and may also require international travel to attend ICANN meetings and related events.
While members of the ICANN Board of Directors may receive compensation, most other leadership roles are voluntary. However, reasonable and documented expenses related to travel and participation are typically reimbursed. Through this call for applications, ICANN and PTI reaffirm their commitment to inclusive, community-driven leadership in the stewardship of the global internet.
