ICANN Opens Applications for 2027 NomCom Chair and Chair-Elect Roles

The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has launched a call for Expressions of Interest for the positions of Chair and Chair-Elect of the 2027 Nominating Committee (NomCom). The organization is inviting experienced leaders from the global Internet community to apply for the two key governance roles.

According to the announcement published on 8 May 2026, the selected candidates will help oversee the NomCom process responsible for identifying and appointing leadership positions across several ICANN bodies. The positions play an important role in supporting ICANN’s multistakeholder governance framework and maintaining balanced community representation.

Responsibilities of the Selected Candidates

The 2027 NomCom Chair will be responsible for managing the committee’s overall work, coordinating discussions, and ensuring that candidate selection processes are conducted fairly, transparently, and efficiently. The Chair-Elect will support these responsibilities while preparing to assume the Chair role in the following cycle.

ICANN noted that both positions require strong leadership, organizational skills, neutrality, and the ability to work effectively across a diverse international community. Candidates are expected to demonstrate experience in consensus-driven environments and an understanding of ICANN’s mission and processes.

Application Timeline and Selection Process

The Expressions of Interest submission period is now open. ICANN stated that applications must be submitted no later than 23:59 UTC on 15 June 2026. After the review process is completed, the ICANN Board is expected to appoint the selected individuals later in 2026.

The organization also emphasized that individuals from all geographic regions are encouraged to apply. ICANN continues to position diversity, inclusion, and broad community participation as central elements of the NomCom selection process.

Supporting ICANN’s Multistakeholder Model

The NomCom is one of the core components of ICANN’s governance ecosystem. It is responsible for recruiting and selecting qualified individuals for leadership positions within ICANN’s Supporting Organizations, Advisory Committees, and Board of Directors.
