What is a .DOT domain?

.DOT is a new generic top-level domain built for startups, software teams, developers, creators, AI services, infrastructure providers, and modern digital brands. Its short, technical ending makes names such as product.dot, studio.dot, or api.dot easy to remember and naturally connected to the web.

.DOT Sunrise registration: SMD file required

The .DOT Sunrise Period runs from July 21 through October 19, 2026. During Sunrise, a .DOT name may be registered by an eligible trademark holder when the requested domain exactly matches a trademark validated by the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH).

To register through NicNames, search for the .DOT name on this page and continue to registration. You will be asked to upload a valid Signed Mark Data (.SMD) file issued by the TMCH during the registration process.

  • Validate the trademark: The trademark must have an active TMCH record.
  • Use an exact match: The requested .DOT label must match the TMCH-validated mark.
  • Upload the SMD file: Attach the valid .SMD file when NicNames prompts you during registration.
  • Apply early: Eligible Sunrise registrations are processed first-come, first-served after successful SMD validation.

What happens after Sunrise?

Early Access: October 20–November 1, 2026

During the 13-day Early Access Period, available .DOT names may be registered before the public launch on a first-come, first-served basis through participating accredited registrars. A trademark or SMD file is not required during Early Access. Early-access pricing applies and may differ from General Availability pricing. Names remain subject to availability and registry rules, including any reserved or premium status.

Early Access gives customers an earlier opportunity to secure a desired available name; it does not guarantee registration. During the Trademark Claims period, an applicant may receive a notice if the requested name matches a trademark recorded in the TMCH.

General Availability: from November 2, 2026

Starting November 2, .DOT registration opens to everyone worldwide through accredited registrars. Available names are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to registry rules and any premium or reserved status.

Why choose .DOT?

  • A short, memorable namespace for technology and digital products
