On 10 November 2025, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) opened the nomination period for its annual ICANN Community Excellence Award. The nomination window will remain open until 8 January 2026 at 23:59 UTC.
Introduced in 2014, the Community Excellence Award recognizes members of the ICANN community who have shown exceptional commitment to consensus-based decision-making and have made meaningful contributions to ICANN’s multistakeholder governance model.
Eligibility & Ideal Candidate Profile
Nominees must have been active within the ICANN community for at least five years. They should have participated in several ICANN working groups or committees and contributed to more than one Supporting Organization (SO) or Advisory Committee (AC).
The ideal candidate is someone who fosters consensus across diverse stakeholder groups, encourages open and respectful dialogue, and demonstrates a strong dedication to the multistakeholder model through consistent volunteer service.
Selection Process & Key Dates
A review panel made up of community members appointed by the chairs of ICANN’s SOs and ACs will evaluate all nominations. The panel will apply a point-based assessment, focusing on collaboration across community lines, ability to enable constructive dialogue, empathy, and advocacy for the multistakeholder model.
The final award recipient will be announced in March 2026 during the ICANN85 Policy Forum, which will take place in Mumbai, India.
How to Submit a Nomination
Nominations must be submitted using the official form and should include detailed justification describing how the nominee meets the award’s criteria. Self-nominations are not permitted. Questions about the nomination process or required details can be sent to the designated contact email.
