SMS Consent and Opt-In Process

NicNames, Inc.

This page documents how NicNames, Inc. collects consent before sending SMS messages. It is published so that our messaging provider and carriers can verify our opt-in process without an account or login.

Messaging program

Under this campaign NicNames sends verification one-time passcodes (OTP) for account login and domain-registration security events only. We do not send marketing or promotional SMS under this campaign.

How users opt in

  1. A signed-in user opens the contact form at /my/contacts/new, or their account profile at /my/profile, and fills in their name, address, email and phone number.
  2. Consent checkboxes appear near the end of the form. Every checkbox is unchecked by default, on every new form. Nothing is pre-selected and no value is carried over from a previously created contact.
  3. The user reads the consent text beside each checkbox and the disclosure shown directly below the checkboxes, and ticks only the ones they want. The checkboxes are independent: ticking one never selects another.
  4. The user saves the contact. Consent is recorded only if the user ticked a box themselves. No consent is recorded from an unchecked form.
  5. Turning on two-factor authentication in account settings sends a verification passcode. Before that can happen, the user must separately tick the verification consent box on the settings page. The Enable button stays disabled until they do, so no passcode is sent to a number that has not opted in.

Exact disclosure text

This is the live consent control as it appears on the form, reproduced here from the same source as the production page. The boxes below are shown in their default, unchecked state and are not interactive. The disclosure line under the boxes is shown on the form exactly as it is here.

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. Consent is optional and not a condition of purchase. Terms of Service

Disclosure version: 2026-09-18

Consent is optional

A contact can be created and saved with none of these boxes ticked. Consent to receive SMS is never a condition of registering a domain, making a purchase, or using a NicNames account. A user who does not consent simply does not receive SMS from NicNames; their account, domains and purchases are unaffected.

Opting out

Users can reply STOP to any message to stop all SMS from this campaign, and HELP to receive support contact information. Opt-out is handled by our messaging provider's standard keyword handling and takes effect immediately. Once an opt-out is recorded, no further SMS is sent to that number, and application retries cannot override it. A user who has opted out can resubscribe by replying START, or by ticking the consent box again on their contact or profile form.
